Expansion

Security Service Federal Credit Union entered Utah in 2010 after the National Credit Union Administration closed Salt Lake City-based Beehive Credit Union and transferred its assets, liabilities, and members to Security Service. The credit union expanded its Utah presence again in 2011, when it purchased and assumed the assets, liabilities, and members of Family First Federal Credit Union in Orem following its liquidation.

Since those transactions, Security Service has expanded its Utah network to 13 branches across Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, Washington, and Weber counties. Most are located along the Wasatch Front, with an additional branch in St. George. Members also have access to more than 5,000 participating shared branches nationwide and nearly 30,000 CO-OP ATMs.

Savings Accounts at Security Service Federal Credit Union

Security Service Federal Credit Union offers standard savings, goal-based savings, youth savings, money market accounts, and retirement savings options. Checking, savings, money market, and certificate accounts are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration for up to $250,000 per account owner, per federally insured credit union, for each ownership category.

Basic Savings Account

The Basic Savings Account establishes membership with Security Service and requires a $5 opening deposit that must remain in the account. The balance can also serve as overdraft protection for an eligible checking account.

Money Market Accounts

Security Service offers the standard Money Market, Money Market Plus, and Money Market Max accounts. The standard account provides check and electronic-transfer access, Money Market Plus has a $0 monthly fee and a lower opening requirement than Money Market Max, and Money Market Max is designed for members maintaining larger balances.

Club Savings Account

The Club Savings Account is intended for planned expenses such as vacations, holidays, or year-end taxes and requires $5 to open. Funds automatically transfer to the member’s Basic Savings Account on October 31 and become available on November 1; an earlier withdrawal closes the account and forfeits that month’s dividends.

Youth Savings Account

The Youth Savings Account is available to qualifying members younger than 18 and requires $5 to open. A parent or other adult joint owner has access to the account, which can establish the child’s credit union membership.

IRA and Education Savings Options

Security Service provides individual retirement and education savings accounts, including Traditional IRA services and options for transferring, contributing to, withdrawing from, or converting eligible retirement funds. Tax treatment, contribution limits, and withdrawal requirements depend on the account and the member’s circumstances.

Share Certificates at Security Service Federal Credit Union

Security Service calls its certificate accounts Share Certificates, the credit union equivalent of certificates of deposit (CDs). These accounts provide a fixed dividend rate for a selected term, although access to funds and the ability to make additional deposits depend on the certificate type.

Traditional Certificate

The Traditional Certificate offers fixed terms ranging from 3 months to 7 years and requires at least $500 to open. Additional deposits are not permitted after opening, and withdrawing funds before maturity may result in a penalty based on the certificate term.

Future Builder Certificate

The Future Builder Certificate is a 12-month certificate that requires at least $250 to open. Members may make additional deposits and withdraw up to 50% of the certificate balance per day without a penalty, provided at least $250 remains in the account.

Fixed-Rate IRA Certificate

The Fixed-Rate IRA Certificate combines a Share Certificate with a Traditional or Roth IRA and requires at least $500 to open. Terms range from 3 months to 7 years, and early withdrawals may be subject to certificate penalties and applicable IRA tax rules.
