Embedify ’26, a financial technology conference, took place October 13 at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah. The event brought together technology companies, financial services professionals, and business leaders to discuss how businesses can offer banking, payments, lending, and other financial services directly through their apps and websites.

This approach, known as embedded finance, allows people to access financial services without switching to a separate banking platform. For example, a shopping app might offer financing at checkout, or a business software platform might allow customers to accept payments and manage their money in one place.

The conference covered payments, lending, banking, insurance, and other financial services. Discussions focused on how companies can add these services to their products, work with financial technology partners, and address potential challenges.

The milestone reflects the bank’s rapid expansion across Utah. Although Bank of America has had a presence in the state through its Merrill wealth management business since 1946, it did not begin opening its modern retail banking locations in Utah until May 2019. In approximately seven years, the bank has grown from having no retail branches in the state to operating 29 financial centers.

Bank of America has invested approximately $42 million in its Utah financial centers and plans to invest another $11 million through 2029. The bank also operates 83 ATMs and employs approximately 380 people in Utah.

Bluevine operates a nationwide digital banking platform for small businesses and has approximately 175,000 active customers and $2.1 billion in deposits. The acquisition will also bring Valley approximately 180 research and development professionals and engineers, including employees based in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
Firefighters Credit Union, based in Draper, and P&S Credit Union, based in West Valley City, have agreed to merge, with Firefighters Credit Union continuing as the surviving institution. The merger has already received approval from the Utah Department of Financial Institutions and the National Credit Union Administration.

If P&S members approve the merger, it is expected to take effect December 1, 2026. The combined credit union would have about $94 million in assets, 5,700 members, and three locations. P&S would continue operating under its existing name as a division of Firefighters Credit Union while the two organizations combine their systems and operations.

Why it matters: The merger would combine two Utah credit unions and expand Firefighters Credit Union’s field of membership to include the groups currently served by P&S.

Loan management systems are software platforms used to manage and service loans after they are created. They track payments, calculate interest, manage balances, and support the ongoing servicing of loans over time.

These systems are not lenders and do not approve loans. Instead, they operate behind the scenes to ensure loans are accurately tracked, updated, and maintained throughout their lifecycle.

Loan marketplaces focus on the front end of lending. They help borrowers find, compare, and apply for loans across multiple lenders.

Loan management systems operate on the back end, managing payments, balances, and loan activity over time. This is where loan management systems take over after a loan is issued, handling payments and ongoing loan activity, as explained in Small Business Loan Marketplaces: Lending Innovation Models.

Marketplaces help you get a loan

Management systems help run the loan after it is issued

Banking-as-a-Service provides the infrastructure that allows companies to offer financial products, including loans.

Loan management systems sit on top of that infrastructure, handling the ongoing servicing and lifecycle management of those loans.

Together, they form a layered model:

Artificial intelligence is increasingly being integrated into loan management systems to improve how loans are monitored and managed.

AI adds a layer of analysis and prediction on top of traditional tracking and calculations.

For example, AI can:

Identify patterns in payment behavior

Predict late payments or potential defaults

This shift toward intelligent systems is described in AI in Finance: How Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Money.

While loan management systems improve efficiency, they also come with practical challenges that lenders need to plan for.

Requires system integration — connection with other financial tools such as loan origination, payments, and reporting systems can take time and technical effort

Complexity for smaller lenders — implementation and maintenance may require resources that smaller organizations do not always have

Dependence on software platforms — once a system is in place, switching providers or making major changes can be costly and disruptive

Customization challenges — different loan types require configuration to workflows, calculations, or reporting, which may not always be straightforward

One major trend is the shift toward real-time servicing, where loan balances, payments, and updates happen instantly instead of in delayed cycles.

LoanPro was founded in 2014 in Utah by three brothers: Rhett, Ben, and Lloyd Roberts. Before starting the company, they operated an auto dealership and later expanded into lending, where they experienced the limitations of legacy loan servicing systems firsthand.

To solve this, they built their own internal software. As other lenders began asking to use the same system, the product evolved into a standalone platform. The company rebuilt the software around 2013–2014 to support multiple loan types and scalable operations, leading to the official launch of LoanPro as a SaaS platform.

LoanPro grew as demand increased for modern, cloud-based lending infrastructure. In 2021, the company raised a $100 million Series A investment from FTV Capital, marking a major step in its expansion. Today, LoanPro supports hundreds of lenders across the U.S. and Canada and manages billions in loans.

Its platform is built as an API-first, cloud-based system designed to replace legacy loan servicing infrastructure.

LoanPro contributes to Utah’s growing reputation as a fintech and financial services hub.

As a company headquartered in Farmington, Utah, it represents a segment of the local ecosystem focused on financial infrastructure and SaaS platforms, rather than consumer-facing banking products. This type of company builds the systems that power lending and financial services behind the scenes.

LoanPro is part of a broader group of Utah-based fintech companies, including Lendio and MX, that support different parts of the financial ecosystem—from marketplaces to data platforms to lending infrastructure.

Its presence highlights how Utah is not only home to banks and credit unions, but also to companies building the core technology that enables modern financial services across the United States and beyond.
