Which Banks Have the Most Branches in Utah?

Utah residents can choose from national banks, regional banks, and local community banks. However, the number of branches each bank has across Utah can be very different. This ranking shows the banks with the most branches in Utah by counting full-service locations where customers can bank in person.

The number of branches does not tell us how large a bank is, how good its products are, or whether it is the best choice for you. This ranking answers one simple question: which banks offer the most in-person locations across Utah?

If you want recommendations based on fees, accounts, online banking, and other needs, see our Best Banks in Utah guide.

This ranking covers banks only. For a separate comparison of credit-union locations, see UtahFi’s Top 10 Credit Unions With the Most Branches in Utah.

How This Ranking Works

UtahFi ranked banks by their number of active, full-service branches in Utah using the FDIC Locations dataset. Utah has 63 FDIC-insured banks operating 510 qualifying branches across 102 cities and towns.

We included full-service branches open to customers and excluded ATMs, loan offices, administrative offices, drive-through-only locations, and other non-retail facilities. Ties were decided by the number of Utah cities served.

Altabank was counted using its official location directory because the FDIC lists its offices under Glacier Bank. You can read the complete methodology after the ranking.

How We Counted Utah Bank Branches

UtahFi used the FDIC Locations dataset as the main source for this ranking. UtahFi reviewed the information on September 14, 2026. The FDIC file used for the ranking carried a run date of August 7, 2026. We counted active Utah offices classified as full-service brick-and-mortar or full-service retail locations.

The statewide totals include 63 FDIC-insured banks with 510 qualifying branches across 102 Utah cities and towns. We also checked official bank websites when needed to confirm that locations were active and open to customers.

Branches We Included

  • Full-service brick-and-mortar branches
  • Full-service retail branches, including qualifying branches inside stores
  • Main offices that provide full-service banking to customers

Locations We Did Not Include

  • ATMs
  • Online-only or home-banking records
  • Messenger services
  • Drive-through-only or separate drive-through locations
  • Loan production offices
  • Mortgage and real estate offices
  • Administrative and corporate offices
  • Trust-only offices
  • Other locations that do not provide regular branch banking

How We Counted Cities and Handled Ties

Each city was counted once for every bank with at least one qualifying branch there. Different versions of the same city name, such as “Saint George,” “St George,” and “St. George,” were combined and counted as one city.

When two banks had the same number of branches, the bank serving more Utah cities received the higher position. This is why Altabank ranks above Cache Valley Bank even though both have 23 branches.

How We Counted Altabank

The FDIC lists Altabank locations under Glacier Bank because Altabank operates as a division of that bank. We used the official Altabank location directory to identify Altabank-branded branches in Utah.

We counted 23 Altabank branches in 22 Utah cities. We did not count the Altabank Service Center in Pleasant Grove, the Cedar City Loan Production Office, the North Logan Real Estate Office, or the Preston location in Idaho.

The statewide total of 63 banks is based on unique FDIC certificate numbers. For that total, Glacier Bank and its Altabank division count as one FDIC-insured bank. Altabank appears separately in the ranking because this article compares the branch networks customers see and use in Utah.

What the Ranking Shows

Zions Bank Has Utah’s Largest Branch Network

Zions Bank leads the ranking with 92 branches in 71 Utah cities. It has 22 more branches than Wells Fargo and serves 28 more Utah cities. This shows that Zions Bank’s lead comes from both its total number of branches and the number of communities it serves.

National and Utah-Based Banks Both Appear

The top 10 includes five large national or multistate banks: Wells Fargo, Chase, U.S. Bank, KeyBank, and Bank of America. It also includes four banks headquartered in Utah: Zions Bank, Cache Valley Bank, Bank of Utah, and State Bank of Southern Utah. Altabank operates in Utah as a division of Montana-based Glacier Bank.

Branch Count and City Coverage Are Different

Having more branches does not always mean serving more cities. KeyBank has 31 branches in 21 cities, while Bank of America has fewer branches but serves 22 cities. Altabank and Cache Valley Bank are tied at 23 branches, but Altabank serves 22 cities compared with Cache Valley Bank’s 18.

This difference shows whether a bank concentrates several branches in the same cities or spreads its locations across more communities.

More Branches Does Not Automatically Mean a Bank Is Better

This ranking measures only physical branch access in Utah. It does not compare account options, fees, customer service, digital tools, or other factors that may matter when choosing a bank.

A bank with fewer branches (or no branches at all) may still be a better match for someone who rarely visits a branch. For broader recommendations based on different banking needs, see our Best Banks in Utah ranking.

Zions Bank currently has the most qualifying branches in Utah, with 92 branches serving 71 cities. UtahFi reviewed the information on September 14, 2026, using an FDIC Locations file with a run date of August 7, 2026.

Does This Ranking Include Credit Unions?

No. This ranking includes FDIC-insured banks only. Credit unions are not banks and are insured and regulated under a different system. UtahFi will publish a separate ranking of the credit unions with the most branches in Utah.

Are ATMs and Loan Offices Counted as Branches?

No. The ranking includes qualifying full-service locations where customers can conduct regular banking business. ATMs, loan production offices, mortgage offices, administrative offices, and drive-through-only locations were excluded.

Why Is Altabank Listed Separately From Glacier Bank?

Altabank operates as a division of Glacier Bank, so the FDIC lists its locations under the Glacier Bank legal entity. UtahFi lists Altabank separately because customers in Utah see and use those locations as Altabank branches.

How Often Does the FDIC Update Its Branch Data?

The FDIC updates BankFind Suite as bank and branch information is processed, but it does not publish a fixed daily, weekly, or monthly update schedule for the Locations dataset. A recently announced branch opening or closing may therefore take time to appear in the data.

How Often Does UtahFi Update This Ranking?

UtahFi reviews this ranking quarterly using the newest available FDIC Locations data and official bank location directories when needed. The ranking may be updated sooner following a major merger, acquisition, rebrand, branch closing, or other change that affects the results.
