Official and primary-source developments from financial institutions, regulators, government agencies, and filings.
MoonPay Agrees to Acquire Utah-Based North Capital
MoonPay announced September 23 that it entered into a definitive agreement to acquire North Capital Investment Technology, a Utah-based financial technology company focused on private-market infrastructure.
North Capital provides technology and regulated services for capital raising, asset management, clearing, custody, and secondary trading. According to MoonPay, North Capital’s platform has supported more than $8.7 billion in primary and secondary transaction volume.
The acquisition would expand MoonPay’s capabilities beyond digital-asset payments and further into private markets and tokenized financial assets. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
Why it matters: North Capital is part of Utah’s financial infrastructure ecosystem, and the acquisition connects a Utah-based private-markets company with the growing overlap between traditional securities, fintech, and tokenized assets.

Sunwest Bank Assumes Deposits and Assets of Failed Nano Banc
California regulators closed Nano Banc of Irvine on September 25 and appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as receiver. The FDIC then entered into a purchase-and-assumption agreement with Sunwest Bank of Sandy, Utah.
As of June 30, Nano Banc had approximately $736 million in assets and $686 million in deposits. Under the agreement, Sunwest Bank is assuming substantially all deposits and purchasing approximately $476 million of Nano Banc’s assets. The FDIC will retain the remaining assets for later disposition.
Nano Banc’s sole branch in Irvine was scheduled to reopen September 28 as a Sunwest Bank branch. Customers can continue accessing their deposits, and the FDIC said depositors do not need to change their banking relationship to retain deposit insurance coverage.
The FDIC preliminarily estimated that the failure will cost the Deposit Insurance Fund approximately $114 million. That estimate may change as the retained assets are sold or otherwise resolved.
Why it matters: The transaction places a Utah-headquartered bank at the center of a federal bank-failure resolution and expands Sunwest Bank’s operations outside Utah through the acquisition of deposits and selected assets from a failed institution.
FinWise Data-Incident Settlement Deadlines Approach
Consumers affected by the FinWise Bank data-incident settlement are approaching several important deadlines.
Settlement class members have until September 29 to exclude themselves from or object to the proposed settlement. The deadline to submit a claim is October 29, and the final approval hearing is scheduled for December 10.
Why it matters: FinWise Bank is headquartered in Utah, and the approaching deadlines make the settlement immediately relevant to consumers who may qualify to participate.
