America First Credit Union and Greater Nevada Credit Union Announce Merger

America First Credit Union logoAmerica First Credit Union from Ogden and Greater Nevada Credit Union announced August 24 that they have entered into a merger agreement.

If approved by regulators, Greater Nevada would operate as Greater Nevada, a division of America First Credit Union. The organizations expect the approval process to continue over the coming months, with completion anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2026.

There are no immediate changes to Greater Nevada members’ accounts, cards, direct deposits, online banking, branches, or ATMs.

Why it matters: The merger would further expand one of Utah’s largest financial institutions and significantly increase America First’s presence in Nevada.

Bank of Utah Opens New Lehi Branch

Bank of Utah Bank of Utah celebrated the opening of a new full-service branch in Lehi on August 25, continuing the bank’s recent expansion in Utah County.

The new location becomes Bank of Utah’s fifth branch in Utah County, joining Lindon, Orem, Provo, and Spanish Fork. The Spanish Fork branch also opened this summer, giving the bank two recent additions in the county.

The Lehi branch offers personal banking, business banking, mortgage services, wealth management, and ATM access. Brooks Rose is serving as banking manager for the new location.

Why it matters: The opening gives residents and businesses in northern Utah County another local banking option and shows Bank of Utah continuing to invest in one of the state’s fastest-growing areas.

Canyon View Credit Union Closes University of Utah Campus Store Branch

Canyon View Credit Union Canyon View Credit Union permanently closed its University of Utah Campus Store branch on August 28, ending a 70-year presence at that location.

The credit union still operates nearby branches at the Student Union, Research Park, and Moran Eye Center, and says a new Foothill Branch is coming soon.

Why it matters: The closure changes local branch access, but Canyon View appears to be reshaping rather than reducing its presence around the university.

Utah Bankers Association Joins Bank-Owned Technology Network

Utah Bankers Association The Utah Bankers Association is among 39 state banking associations participating in the newly formed BankChain Alliance, an industry-led effort to build shared technology infrastructure for banks.

The alliance plans to create a bank-owned and bank-governed network that could support services such as faster payments, tokenized deposits, automated settlement, and other emerging banking capabilities. The group is currently selecting a technology provider and is targeting a 2027 launch.

Why it matters: If the network succeeds, Utah community and regional banks could gain access to newer payment and banking technology without having to build expensive infrastructure on their own.

Green Dot Bank Ownership Change Remains Pending

Utah regulators continue to list CommerceOne Financial Corporation’s proposed acquisition of Green Dot Bank as pending.

Consumers may know Green Dot more through the products it supports than through the bank’s name itself. Green Dot Bank is the issuing bank behind the Walmart MoneyCard, and Green Dot also operates GO2bank and Green Dot-branded Visa debit and prepaid card products.

Green Dot Bank is headquartered in Provo, making the deal directly relevant to Utah’s banking industry even though its products serve customers nationwide.

Why it matters: A completed transaction would change the ownership of the Utah-chartered bank behind widely used products such as Walmart MoneyCard and other Green Dot banking services.
